SINGER/COMPOSER/PERFORMER

Lei'ohu's songs come to her spontaneously as voices in the wind, rain, and sea, and through the soil of the land that she walks (usually barefoot). They tell of sacred places, memories and rituals of the ancestors who guide and cloak her in the essence of aloha.

Her first CD, Kukuipuka (1998), celebrates the spiritual reawakening of the heiau (hay-ee-ow). Next was Ho'ola'a, essentially a live recording. It offers chants and mele that speak of one's migration in spirit and search for the promise of a new homeland. Waiha (2002) offers prayers in song that give voice to Mother Earth. Lady of the Mountain (June 2001) remembers the sacred chiefs and chiefesses who brought their mana to this land. E Ho'i Mai Ke Aloha Hou / Love Returns (2004) speaks of love returning in all its forms to reawaken and connect to the spirit spring of sacred memories of time. CULTURAL/SPIRITUAL PRACTITIONER top

In 1995, Lei'ohu rediscovered a heiau (Hawaiian temple) in Kahakuloa, Maui. Under her guidance and inspiration, many hands have worked to reawaken the mana of Kukuipuka heiau, and it is once again a place of healing, sharing, and prayers. Many and diverse groups choose this place for special gatherings, such as prayers for world peace, cultural classes, lessons in slack-key guitar and Hawaiian herbal healing.
